The British airline British Airways and the Spanish Iberia confirmed that they are in negotiations over a potential merger between the two companies complete.
Although, as said by BA, negotiations are in early stages, the two companies confirmed that, to reach agreement, both brands would be maintained as part of the new group.
These negotiations may not fall as a surprise considering that in 1999 British Airways acquired a 9% of Iberia, an amount increased in recent months to 13.15%.
On the other hand, Iberia confirmed the purchase of 2.99% of British Airways, although it must be clarified that its share increasing to 6.99% depending on certain variables in contracts and the stock price.
The UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon called on Friday to increase agricultural production worldwide warning that high prices of food and fuel were threatening much of the progress in the goals reducing poverty in the world.
